Heritage is deeply engrained in the Camden area and next month we will be celebrating it with Unlock Camden.
The annual event sees Camden's historic past unlocked through stories, images and an exciting program of events to be held along John Street in Camden on Saturday 15 October from 10am to 3pm.
The program will include:
- Four heritage walking tours of Camden with the first two tours to end at the popular Camden Fresh Produce Markets;
- Activities at Alan Baker Art Gallery including:
- Giant Jenga, hopscotch and quoits;
- The Honey Sippers performing live;
- A community BBQ;
- Indigenous rock painting;
- Vintage car cut out and car display;
- Hitching post decorated with historic images;
- Images projected through Macaria windows; and
- Scones by the Camden County Women's Association;
- Information stalls within Camden Library;
- Online #thenandnow and #mycamdenstory social media campaigns; and
- Virtual walking tour of Camden on social media.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Therese Fedeli, said it was the perfect chance to learn more about Camden's past.
"The history of Camden is very unique and Unlock Camden is our chance to pay our respects to the past," Cr Fedeli said.
"The Unlock Camden program covers a range of items to enjoy throughout the day from heritage walks through to a range of images and vintage cars.
"Our online social media campaigns also give the wider community a chance to share their images of old Camden and compare it with how it is today.
"I encourage the community to get involved and enjoy what Unlock Camden has to offer."
