High-ranking OMCG member charged over Port Kembla brawl, NSW

A high-ranking member of the Black Uhlans outlaw motorcycle gang (OMCG) is the second person charged over an alleged brawl at an Illawarra pub last month, NSW Police say.

Just after 10pm on Friday 20 July 2018, a man and woman were at a pub on Wentworth Street, Port Kembla, when they were involved in a verbal altercation with two men.

The men approached the couple before allegedly punching the first man a number of times in the head.

As bar staff attempt to intervene, one of the men – aged 23 – allegedly attempted to break a glass bottle before being held by a number of his associates, who were believed to be members of the Black Uhlans OMCG.

Meanwhile, other associates, including a 34-year-old man, allegedly attempted to assault the victim, who was then assisted to leave by staff.

The 23-year-old man, the 34-year-old man and their group allegedly gave chase and set upon the victim, knocking him to the ground, punching and kicking him.

A short time later, the victim’s wife intervened by lying on top of him, and the group began to disperse.

During the affray, the man sustained a deep laceration to his lower leg and was treated was by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital for surgery on severed tendons and nerves in his leg.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District and Strike Force Raptor South also attended the location, but the group had left the area.

An investigation was subsequently launched by detectives from Raptor South.

On Thursday 26 July 2018, a 23-year-old man was arrested at Lake Illawarra Police Station, where he was charged with affray. He remains before the courts.

Following further inquiries, officers from Raptor South executed a search warrant at a home at Appin about 6.15am yesterday (Wednesday 29 August 2018).

Police arrested a 34-year-old man at the home and served Firearms and Weapons Prohibition Orders.

The man, who is a high-ranking member of the Black Uhlans OMCG, was taken to Campbelltown Police Station and charged with affray.

He was refused bail and appeared at Campbelltown Local Court, where he was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Port Kembla Local Court on Wednesday 17 October 2018.

Investigations are continuing, and further arrests are expected.
