HKU Fencing Team Wins Intercollegiate Championship

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) has struck gold by capturing the overall championship title in the intercollegiate fencing competition, the premier fencing event for university students organized by the University Sports Federation of Hong Kong, China.

Students from 11 tertiary institutions participated in six sports events, including Men and Women Epee, Men and Women Sabre; and Men and Women Foil in the fencing competition held at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology on 11 and 12 February 2023

The HKU Women's Fencing Team showed particularly strong performance and earned gold medals in both the epee and sabre matches. Overall, the HKU Fencing team attained a score of 304 points and captured the overall championship title.

CSE Team Advisor for fencing team and convenor of the event Mr. Matthew Fung was pleased with the performance of the team and happy to see the event being held again after some cancellations during the COVID pandemic period.

"We are very proud of our HKU fencers, who have continued to perform consistently with good performances over the years", said Dr. Michael Tse, Director of the Centre for Sports and Exercise (CSE). "We have also been able to attract more high performing fencers through our Sports Scholarship and TADAS schemes, so we look forward to seeing the teams' developments."

CSE offers good training opportunities to athletes on skills and tactical development via dedicated coaches, as well as professional level strength and conditioning support at HKU's B-Active fitness centre. CSE also supports the physical, social and personal developments of athletes and general studentsvia a host of specialized activity programs, including but not limited to UniSports, UniAdventure and Exercise is Medicine on Campus.
