HKU Hits Record High in 2025 Global University Rankings

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) has achieved a record high in the 2025 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), rising two places to 67th globally. This marks the fourth consecutive year HKU has set a new benchmark in this ranking. HKU also retains its position as the top university in Hong Kong.

This year's improvement is driven by HKU's commitment to academic excellence and exceptional research performance, particularly in high-impact publications in leading scientific journals. The University remains committed to advancing knowledge and fostering innovation on a global scale.

The ARWU, released annually by the ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, evaluates over 2500 universities worldwide and publishes the top 1000 results. Since 2003, it has been ranking the world's top universities annually, using a methodology that incorporates six indicators including the number of alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, the number of articles published in journals of Nature and Science, the number of Highly Cited Researchers selected by Clarivate™, the number of articles indexed in Science Citation Index - Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index from the Web of Science, and per capita performance of a university.
