The ship's company of HMAS Toowoomba has bidden farewell to its Commanding Officer, Commander Barton Harrington, during a ceremony in Darwin.
Commander Harrington officially handed over the 'weight of command', in the form of a nautical telescope, to Commander Adam Stafford during a change of command ceremony on May 20 alongside HMAS Coonawarra.
Commander Stafford thanked Commander Harrington for his service and leadership.
"It's a great privilege to assume command of HMAS Toowoomba and to continue the legacy of strong leadership set by Commander Bart Harrington," Commander Stafford said.
"The ship's reputation is a direct reflection of its exceptional crew - motivated, capable and committed Australians who embody the values of the Navy every day.
"I'm proud to lead a ship so deeply focused on operational excellence."
Commander Stafford's comments highlighted his approach and thoughtfulness towards leadership - specifically regarding leadership at all levels.
"HMAS Toowoomba is a ship where leadership is shared and every member of the team contributes to our success," Commander Stafford said.
"Bringing together leadership, readiness and a fighting spirit ensures we can deliver on task, every time."
While the crew of Toowoomba has bidden farewell to one strong and thoughtful leader, it is clear they are welcoming another.
