Hodgson Meets EU Energy, Housing Commissioner Jørgensen

Natural Resources Canada

Today, Canada's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Tim Hodgson, met with the European Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Dan Jørgensen during the G7 Energy and Environment Ministers' Meeting in Toronto, Ontario.

Minister Hodgson and Commissioner Jørgensen reaffirmed their shared commitment to energy security and sustainable economic growth while meeting energy transition goals.

They committed to ensuring concrete actions to support implementation of the EU-Canada Strategic Partnership of the Future announced in June, which includes a focus on reliable and sustainable energy supply chains and critical energy transition minerals and metals, in the context of Canada and the EU's transition to climate neutrality.

The Minister and the Commissioner also discussed ways to build on the progress of the Critical Minerals Action Plan and maintain momentum on the Critical Minerals Production Alliance, and shared views on how to advance mutually supportive goals of competitiveness and energy transition, while building secure and affordable energy systems.

Their discussion confirmed the fact that Canada and the European Commission remain steadfast in their commitment to uphold Ukraine's independence and territorial integrity, and in particular to strengthen Ukrainian energy security and European energy sovereignty.
