A woman is in custody following the death of an 80-year-old man in Palm Cove overnight.
Police were called to an address on Williams Esplanade following reports of a serious assault around 10.50pm.
Upon arrival, emergency services located the man with several stab wounds.
He was transported to Cairns Base Hospital in a critical condition, where he passed away from his injures.
A 58-year-old woman was taken into custody at the scene and is assisting police with their enquiries.
Investigations are continuing into the circumstances leading up to the incident.
