Hone To Drive Down Crime

NSW Nationals

Nationals' candidate for Richmond, Kimberly Hone, today unveiled a $3 million investment by an elected Coalition Government to bolster crime prevention across the region's crime hotspots.

The funding will support the installation of CCTV, alarm systems, and security lighting in Ballina, Tweed Shire, and Byron councils, with each receiving $1 million.

"Crime is taking a heavy toll on our communities, from vehicle theft to home break-ins, often while families are asleep," Ms Hone said.

"This $3 million pledge equips police with essential tools to enforce the law and empowers councils to deploy infrastructure that deters crime."

Ms Hone said the funding alleviates the financial strain on small businesses, who are already grappling with escalating living costs like energy bills and interest rates.

"Small businesses are struggling to pay their power bills, so why should they bear the burden of the cost of private security for public property as well?" Ms Hone said.

"New security infrastructure will modernise surveillance, deter antisocial behaviour, and assist police in apprehending offenders."

This announcement complements the Coalition's broader anti-crime strategy, which includes enhanced funding for Crime Stoppers, measures to curb illicit drug distribution to youth, and the introduction of national knife crime laws.

Ms Hone underscored her commitment to practical safety measures, including strengthening youth diversion and cultural programs, which have faced funding cuts under Labor.

"I'm dedicated to making our public spaces safer and supporting programs that steer young people away from crime, even as Labor cut them," Ms Hone said.

"Under a Coalition Government, Richmond will be better supported to drive down crime.
