A biscuit tin is a simple thing but in many homes, it holds much more than biscuits. It carries memories, traditions and quiet acts of care, bringing people together across generations.
This idea sits at the heart of Recipes for Respect, a new booklet celebrating older women in Boroondara. Through personal stories, reflections and cherished recipes, local women share what respect looks like in everyday life in moments of connection, inclusion and recognition.
While older women play a vital role in families, workplaces and community life, their voices are not always heard. Recipes for Respect shines a light on these experiences and encourages conversations about inequality and respect while recognising the contributions of older women.
The City of Boroondara celebrated the launch of this booklet on Thursday 18 June, with a panel conversation featuring Cr Ibuki and 3 of our booklet's participants.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the women who generously shared their stories and recipes: Madrilena, Sew, Edwina, Gwenda, Janet, Jo, Susan, Liz, Susie, Wenmei and Vivi. Their honesty and warmth offer a powerful reminder of the importance of feeling seen, heard and valued.
