Honouring Bayside's Incredible Centenarians

Today we marked the International Day of Older Persons with a special celebration with Bayside's centenarians, honouring the remarkable lives and contributions of residents aged 100 years or older.

Reaching 100 is an extraordinary milestone, particularly when you consider just how much the world has changed during their lifetimes. Australia's population has grown from just over 6 million in 1926 to more than 28 million today, while advances in technology and changes to our communities and way of life have transformed the world around us.

Closer to home, 1926 was also a significant year for Bayside. The HMVS Cerberus was sunk off Half Moon Bay to create a breakwater, while the Sandringham Band Rotunda opened.

It was also the year Winnie-the-Pooh was first published, and among those born in 1926 were Queen Elizabeth II, Marilyn Monroe and Sir David Attenborough.

Today's celebration was an opportunity to recognise not only an incredible milestone, but the experiences, stories and contributions Bayside's centenarians have shared across a century of change.
