Hope Island Homicide: Operation Victor Lacerta

A 39-year-old Hope Island man has passed away in hospital following a serious assault that occurred at Sanctuary Cove, Hope Island, on Saturday night, May 27.

Around 9.20pm, police were called to a disturbance outside a licenced premises on Masthead Way, where the 39-year-old was punched in the face by another man who fled the scene on foot.

The 39-year-old sustained critical injuries and was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital where he passed away this morning, June 1.

Due to the man's serious injuries, Gold Coast detectives established Operation Victor Lacerta to investigate the incident.

Police continue to appeal for any witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam, CCTV or other vision from the Sanctuary Cove and Hope Island areas between 9pm and 10pm on Saturday night to come forward.

Investigations are continuing.
