Kirsty, 53, a mum of one, had been living with renal reflux since her twenties. What she initially thought was a water infection while on holiday turned out to be the start of a much more serious illness. Over time, her kidney function declined and she eventually needed a transplant.
Natalie said:
"Our mum was the first to donate a kidney to Kirsty, but after years of ill health, her first transplant began to fail."
Natalie then volunteered for testing to see if she was suitable to became her sister's second donor. She said:
"I always knew I would do it one day and it turned out that I was a really good match. The transplant and recovery went really well and my sister went from strength to strength."
Natalie spent four days in hospital.
She said:
"The care we received was fantastic. "I remember knowing that I could contact the renal team at any time, they were really caring."
Mum of two, Natalie added:
"The transplant has made a huge difference to Kirsty's life. She is now travelling on holidays again, something she had not been able to do before."
"Seeing my sister enjoy life again is the greatest reward. It's lovely to see her getting out and about and enjoying herself."
