How Cities Work exhibition

Leeton Shire Council

Discover something exciting on every corner at the How Cities Work interactive family exhibition.

Council is excited to announce that the How Cities Work travelling exhibition from Sydney Living Museums will be opening at the Leeton Museum and Gallery on Saturday 6 November 2021.
It's the city as you've never experienced it before!
From skyscrapers to underground networks, this interactive family exhibition reveals the secret workings of our busy urban centres. Explore the city inside and out, top to bottom in a whole new way.
Visitors big and small will traverse a spectacular cityscape full of tactile and sensory activities, including a lively hands-on construction site, a futuristic design station and a towering 2-metre-high cityscape, perfect for Godzilla impersonators and happy-snappers.
Peek inside buildings, duck underground, see and hear the city come to life with playful animations, bustling sounds and something new to uncover on every street corner.
How Cities Work brings to life the best-selling book of the same name, published by Lonely Planet Kids, and is developed in collaboration with the book's illustrator and city fanatic, James Gulliver Hancock.
"This exhibition is a dream project for me," said James Gulliver Hancock.
"The Busy City interactive wall, with an animated display that responds to touch, is one of my favourites - there's a bit of magic to it," he said.
James' playful obsession with drawing has led him around the world to capture buildings in New York and London and closer to home in Sydney and Melbourne.
"From cranes to trains, underground to green spaces, the mystery, mayhem and magic of cities captures our imagination," said Adam Lindsay, Executive Director, Sydney Living Museums.
Council's Manager Cultural Services Sues Vos encourages all visitors and particularly families to come along and experience this surprising and interactive exhibit.
"We're very excited to bring the How Cities Work exhibition to the families of Leeton Shire and the Riverina," said Sues Vos.
"Over summer the Leeton Museum and Gallery will come alive with a focus on students and families.
"Pop on a hard hat and step onto a lively construction site and learn all about cities while having fun.
"We encourage everyone to redeem their NSW Discover Vouchers for admission and spread the word to friends and family.
"The Leeton Museum and Gallery has ramp and stair access, ample pram parking indoors, a baby change and feeding room, and we can't wait to see the building full of kids!" said Sues Vos.
How Cities Work is an exhibition that will impress people from all walks of life.
Be sure to step inside this illustrated cityscape for an immersive experience with a surprise behind every door.
