Human remains identified as missing man Gordon Copeland

Human remains located in the Moree area last week have been confirmed as those of missing man, Gordon Copeland.

He was last seen near the Gwydir River, Yarraman, on Saturday 10 July 2021 and despite multiple searches, he was not located.

On Wednesday 6 October 2021, officers from New England Police District commenced a further search.

The search was assisted by officers from Marine Area Command, Police Rescue, Western Region Operation Support Group (OSG), the Dog and Mounted Unit, general duties officers, both small boat and drone-trained officers, and the NSW State Emergency Service.

About 10.30am on Thursday 7 October 2021, police divers located human remains in the Gwydir River near Billa Street, Yarraman, approximately 500m from where he was last seen.

The remains were sent for forensic examination and have been identified as those of missing 22-year-old man Gordon Copeland.

Investigators are continuing to prepare a report for the information of the NSW Coroner.
