Huntingfield Park and Ride two years late

Tasmanian Labor

Congratulations to Minister for Infrastructure, Michael Ferguson, for finally delivering the Huntingfield Park and Ride, more than two years late.

The Park and Ride was to be the first major city deal initiative to reduce congestion when the Hobart City Deal was first signed in February 2019. Three and a half years later, it is finally here.

This speaks to the Tasmanian Liberal Government's inability to deliver more generally. Major projects across the deal have either been shelved or delayed.

The Hobart underground bus mall has gone completely missing. A site is still yet to be selected more than four years after it was announced. The northern suburbs light rail has been scrapped and the fifth lane on the Southern Outlet remains without detailed designs and a budget.

And after ten years of inaction, yet another Macquarie Point masterplan has been scrapped because the Liberal Government now wants to build a $750 million stadium on the site.

The Government isn't getting the basics right when it comes to Tasmania's basic infrastructure needs.
