Iconic Black Swan Revives AFL Origin Jumper in WA

Team jumpers and more players have been revealed for the upcoming return of AAMI AFL Origin in February 2026, as Perth gears up to host the iconic event.

Team WA's matchday player jumper, designed and made locally by Burley Sekem Bassendean, proudly features the iconic black swan - a symbol of Western Australia - set against gold and black colours, paying homage to past AFL Origin designs.

This locally designed jumper is an example of the Cook Government's future that is Made in WA a priority in ensuring our local businesses and local jobs are protected.

Designed by New Balance, Victoria's matchday player jumper honours the State's legacy, with the renowned 'Big V' showcased on a classic blue and white palette.

More players have also been announced for both sides, with Kysaiah Pickett, Luke Jackson and Liam Baker representing WA and Max Gawn, Toby Greene and Tom Stewart playing for Victoria.

Supported by the Cook Government through Tourism WA, the iconic State v State showdown will take place at the world-class Optus Stadium on Saturday, 14 February 2026, and is the first AFL Origin game in over 26 years.

Major events like the 2026 AFL Origin highlight the Cook Government's commitment to diversifying the economy by building a year-round calendar of events that create an ongoing pipeline of visitors to WA, boosting the State's tourism sector, and delivering significant benefits for local businesses and local jobs.

As stated by Tourism Minister Reece Whitby:

"For the first time since 1999, Western Australia's top footy players will don the iconic black swan jumper for the highly anticipated return of AFL Origin.

"With the announcement of new players like Luke Jackson and Max Gawn, this game is shaping up to be an event between States that can't be missed.

"WA is not only making history by hosting this fixture, but it puts our State at the forefront of the nation's mind, and we can't wait to welcome thousands of visitors when February comes around.

"Attracting AFL Origin to our State is another example of the Cook Government's commitment to diversifying the economy by welcoming thousands of out-of-state visitors to provide a boost to local businesses and jobs while designing the iconic WA jumper is key to our Made in WA future."

As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti:

"It will be the iconic Swan taking on the Big V when WA's best line up against Victoria in next year's AFL Origin clash.

"More than 40,000 tickets have already been sold, with interstate fans set to flock to WA, delivering a major boost to local tourism and hospitality.

"AFL Origin is part of an action-packed summer of sport in Perth, including the United Cup, HoopsFest and the AFC Women's Asian Cup.

"These events pump millions into the economy, create local jobs and bring communities together, which is why we push so hard to secure them for WA."
