Illegal cigarettes seized

Officers from Kingston Proactive Tasking Unit have arrested and charged a man after approximately $1.2 million dollars of illegally imported were located during a warrant on Tuesday.

Police attended an address on Farm Road, Cheltenham about 12pm and executed the warrant.

It is alleged almost 4000 illegal e-cigarettes, 22.5kg of loose tobacco and over 20,000 packets of illegal imported cigarettes were located during the search.

A 32-year-old man from Cheltenham was arrested at the scene and has been charged with possess tobacco products with intent to defraud the revenue of the Commonwealth, negligently deal with proceeds of crime, unauthorised possession of a schedule 4 poison and unauthorised supply of a schedule 4 poison.

He has been bailed to appear at Moorabbin Magistrates' Court on 29 June.
