The International Labour Organization (ILO) is issuing a new report on the key role that social protection systems can play in countering the impact of climate change and supporting a just transition.
The World Social Protection Report 2024-26: Universal Social Protection for Climate Action and a Just Transition, also offers new figures on the number of people globally who benefit from some form of social protection. It highlights some of the key gaps in social protection coverage, notably in countries that are among those worst affected by climate change.
The ILO's Assistant Director-General, Mia Seppo, will present the report at a hybrid press briefing at the UN Palais des Nations, Geneva, at 10:30 CEST (08.30 GMT) on Thursday 12 September. The briefing will be open to Geneva-based, UNOG-accredited, correspondents. Recognized regional journalists will be able to follow the virtual briefing via YouTube, on request. The link will be sent in advance.
The report and all associated materials will be under STRICT EMBARGO until 11.30 CEST (9.30 GMT) on Thursday 12 September.
Embargoed copies of the report, the press release and other materials can be provided to recognized media on request.
