ILO to Hold 15th African Regional Meeting in Windhoek

The International Labour Organization (ILO) will hold its 15th African Regional Meeting in Windhoek, Namibia, from 2-4 December 2026.

Representatives of governments, employers' and workers' organizations from across Africa will discuss the major transformations reshaping the continent's world of work and agree on priorities for advancing decent work and social justice.

Discussions will focus on three major transformations:

  • Demographic change, including the challenge of creating productive and decent jobs for Africa's rapidly growing youth population
  • Digital transformation and artificial intelligence, and their implications for jobs, skills, enterprises and workers' rights
  • The green and climate transition, including opportunities for decent jobs, resilient enterprises and a just transition

Delegates will also discuss the report of ILO Director-General Gilbert F. Houngbo, Delivering social justice through inclusive labour market transformations in Africa, which argues that Africa should not simply adapt to these transformations but actively shape them with social justice as a guiding principle.

The meeting will review progress since the Abidjan Declaration, adopted at the previous African Regional Meeting in 2019, and agree priorities for future action.

Details of the agenda and related documents are available on the ILO website.

All plenary sittings will be available to follow online via ILO Live.
