Wagga Wagga City Council has accepted funding from Inland Rail to deliver a temporary pedestrian and cycling diversion around Cassidy's Bridge in Turvey Park during the reconstruction of the bridge.
Inland Rail will be responsible for the construction of the temporary pedestrian and cycle bridge over the railway line east of the existing Cassidy's Bridge.
Manager City Growth & Regional Assets Ben Creighton said Council will be responsible for the construction of new shared paths and associated infrastructure as part of the Active Travel Plan (ATP) Central link.
"We will be delivering these works on behalf of Inland Rail, providing a safe alternative route for pedestrians and cyclists travelling between Turvey Park and Central Wagga Wagga while construction of the bridge is underway," Mr Creighton said.
"The works will include a new shared path along Fox Street, between the new temporary pedestrian and cycle bridge and Edward Street, and widening a section of existing footpath along Edward Street, from Fox Street to Brookong Avenue.

"We will also be constructing a temporary pedestrian refuge island on Brookong Avenue at the intersection with Edward Street, and new line marking to create a safer crossing point on Brookong Avenue.
"The new asset along Fox Street will add value to the network, as this area is a high pedestrian zone due to the proximity to the existing businesses and Service NSW building."
Construction is expected to take place on the Fox Street section from Tuesday 28 April to Friday 31 April 2026, weather and contractor availability permitting.

Access for residents and businesses on Fox Street will be maintained during the construction works.
A start date for the works on Edward Street is still to be confirmed. Parking along Edward Street will be affected during the construction period.
