Inner West Young Creatives Awards 2023

Inner West Council

The search is now on for this year's young artists.

Now in its seventh year, the Awards showcase the talent and creativity that the Inner West is known for.

As a testament to the quality of the work entered, previous entrants have been commissioned by Inner West Council to run workshops and design for promotional material.

Who can Enter?

The Awards are open to all talented creatives aged 12-24 that live, work or study in the Inner West in the following categories:

• Writing

• Visual art

• Film (new for 2023)

Film is new for 2023 and in response to the phenomenal rise of young film makers who create content on their phones.

The Prize Pool

All submitted works are judged by a highly respected panel of creatives that work in the field of film, art and design or the writing industry.

The total cash prize pool is over $7500.

Winners and runners-up in each age bracket (12-15, 16-18, 19-24) for each category win cash prizes.

Winners and runners-up also receive valuable exposure with their work exhibited or performed at venues across the Inner West.

Mentorship Prize

The winner of the Filmmaking Category in the 19-25 age range will also be offered a private creative development mentoring session with production company Cosmic Scream.

How to enter…

Entrants are asked to use an item in the Inner West Libraries collection for inspiration or as reference to.

Submit a piece of writing (1000 words), either a short story, poetry, review, fan fiction or a piece of prose.

Submit a photo of an artwork either a drawing, painting, photography, collage, sculpture or still digital piece.

Submit a film (up to 7 minutes) either animation, music video, narrative short film or moving digital drawing.

Submissions are now open 1 May to 31 August.

Winner's art exhibition at Chrissie Cotter Gallery with workshops and events over the four days.

November 16 - Film winner's announcement

Winner's film night at Marrickville Pavilion 

November 23 to 15 December 

Winning works exhibited at Leichhardt Library
