International Steinway Piano Series presents Yulianna Avdeeva

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Corvallis-OSU Piano International Steinway Piano Series presents Russian pianist Yulianna Avdeeva at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 1 at The LaSells Stewart Center, 875 SW 26th St. in Corvallis.

Following her first prize in the 2010 Chopin International Piano Competition, Avdeeva has embarked on an international performing career that has included dates with many of the world's top orchestras, including the Sydney and Melbourne symphonies in Australia, the Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester in Berlin, Tokyo's NHK Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre Symphonique du Montreal and the BBC Scottish Orchestra.

Avdeeva's Corvallis recital comprises four Romantic-era works by Robert Schumann, Franz Schubert and Ludwig van Beethoven.

Schumann's "Fantasiestücke," Op. 12, opens the program with its eight contrasting pieces. Schubert's four-movement "Wanderer" Fantasy in C major follows, offering a formidable test of pianistic endurance. Finally, two works by Beethoven close the program: Fantasia in G minor, Op. 77; and the "Eroica" Variations in E-flat major, Op. 35.

Tickets cost $25 in advance or $28 at the door. College students with ID and youth ages 8 to 18 are admitted free. Advance tickets may be purchased online at corvallispiano.org or locally in Corvallis at Grass Roots Books & Music. To request accommodations relating to a disability, please call 541-758-0036, preferably at least one week in advance.
