Intersection Upgrade To Make Newcomb Safer

Dept of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications

Construction on a major upgrade at one of Geelong's busiest intersections is underway, making it easier and safer for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians to get where they need to go.

Upgrades to the Geelong-Portarlington Road and Wilsons Road intersection in Newcomb will deliver new traffic signals, dedicated turning lanes and a pedestrian footpath connecting to the bus stop.

The $6.5 million project is jointly funded by the Albanese and Allan Labor Governments, with each contributing $3.25 million.

Geelong-Portarlington Road is a four-lane, dual carriageway connecting Geelong with the popular coastal township of Portarlington on the Bellarine Peninsula.

The intersection is in a busy residential area and experiences significant seasonal holiday traffic.

Construction will take around six months, with crews onsite Monday to Friday. Lane closures and a 40 kilometre per hour speed limit will be in place to keep workers and road users safe.

This is part of our work to roll out road safety upgrades right across Victoria, because every Victorian deserves to get home safely.
