The Australian Government's commitment to offshore energy continues with the introduction of regulations to support the establishment of offshore wind and help decarbonise our economy.
The first stage of regulations includes the:
- Offshore Electricity Infrastructure Regulations 2022
- Offshore Electricity Infrastructure (Regulatory Levies) Regulations 2022
- Cost Recovery Implementation Statement (CRIS)
The regulations will drive investment in offshore wind projects by providing certainty about licensing of offshore wind projects and outlining comprehensive cost recovery arrangements for industry.
In response to the feedback provided during the consultation on the draft regulations (from 22 March to 22 April 2022), the draft regulations and the CRIS were updated to support their operation and the increased industry readiness in applying for licences.
We received 36 submissions from industry, state governments, non-government organisations and the community in response to the draft regulations and CRIS.
The consultation for the second stage of the regulations will be released early 2023 and will support:
- management plans
- financial security
- safety and protection zones
- work health and safety
