The Australian Government has updated its United Nations sanctions framework in relation to Iran.
Australia implements UNSC sanctions through Australian domestic laws, including the Charter of the United Act 1945 and its regulations.
The new regulations - the Charter of the United Nations (Sanctions - Iran) Regulations 2025 - include the following measures:
- restrictions on the export or supply of certain goods;
- restrictions on the import or purchase of certain goods;
- restriction on the provision of certain services;
- restrictions on sensitive commercial activities
- restrictions on providing 'bunkering' services
- restrictions on providing to or dealing with the assets of designated persons or entities
- travel bans on designated persons
