Jackie Dent - Great Dead Body Teachers

Jackie DentJoin Hawkesbury Library Service for a discussion of The Great Dead Body Teachers by journalist Jackie Dent, presented by Hawkesbury Library Service on Friday, 8 September from 6pm at Hawkesbury Central Library, 300 George Street, Windsor.

Jackie Dent has been fascinated by the process of decay from a young age, following the death of her pet budgie. When Jackie discovered, as an adult, that her grandparents had donated their bodies to science, she was intrigued. What would lead someone to donate their body to science? What are the ethical and practical concerns of body donation, and what happens once the donated body is no longer required?

Part-detective, part adventure story, Jackie Dent weaves the personal with the historical – delving into the history of medical cadaver research and exploring the practicalities and the ethics of whole-body dissection, all while looking for answers as to what happened to her grandparents.

Tickets are $5 each, which includes light refreshments from 5:30pm with the talk commencing at 6pm.
