Vanderbilt University's planned West Palm Beach campus has gained crucial momentum with the donation of several parcels of prime land totaling over an acre from longtime West Palm Beach developer and philanthropist Jeff Greene and his wife, Mei Sze Greene.
The Greenes' gift-comprising eight contiguous parcels-expands the site established through commitments by the City of West Palm Beach and Palm Beach County, creating a unified footprint for the university's new graduate campus. This gift strengthens the foundation for a world-class campus in West Palm Beach-a key initiative of the Dare to Grow campaign-that integrates technology, business and engineering, equipping students to translate ideas into impact across the industries defining the future economy. Together with the land unanimously granted by the city and county, the additional parcels gifted by the Greenes reduce fragmentation across the site.
"This land will allow us to design a true, cohesive campus, where classrooms, labs and community spaces come together seamlessly," Vanderbilt Chancellor Daniel Diermeier said. "We are deeply grateful to Jeff and Mei Sze for their generous commitment, which reflects something we have seen again and again in West Palm Beach and Palm Beach County: a deep understanding of education and research as catalysts for opportunity and growth."
For Jeff Greene, the donation reflects a longstanding commitment to education and to the future of West Palm Beach.
"We acquired these and other adjacent parcels in 2012, when the economy here was very bad, and almost no one was willing to invest here," Greene said. "We were approached to sell or develop our land on these blocks many times, but we always knew that our land, when combined with the city and county land, was the last big assemblage left in downtown West Palm Beach. Our hope was that, together with the city and county, we could get a hospital, museum, stadium or university on these amazing, prime downtown parcels. Getting Vanderbilt University to open a 1,000-student graduate campus on our land is literally our dream come true."
Greene, a prominent figure in real estate development across the U.S., has been deeply engaged in educational initiatives, including founding The Greene School, a private school in West Palm Beach that focuses on next-generation programming in STEM subjects and creative pathways such as musical theater and visual art. The land donation to Vanderbilt marks the largest philanthropic gift the Greenes have made to date and underscores their belief in education as a catalyst for economic mobility and regional growth.

Contingent on receipt of approval by relevant accrediting and education regulatory bodies, Vanderbilt plans to offer programs in finance, management, engineering, space technology and innovation, defense technology and manufacturing, and business innovation. Education in AI and data science will be integrated throughout to meet the demands of the growing industries and emerging fields in South Florida. By anchoring the campus in a unified, strategically aligned footprint, the university aims to create a destination for innovation that attracts top students, faculty and employers to the region.
FUNDRAISING-FUELED GROWTH
The Greenes' gift builds on the strong community support and philanthropic momentum that propelled Vanderbilt to proceed with campus development and launch a new $250 million phase of its fundraising effort for the West Palm Beach campus.
Further philanthropic support will help develop the campus's signature features, including state-of-the-art facilities, innovative academic programs and curriculum, public-facing initiatives, faculty recruitment, student scholarships and experiential learning opportunities-all of which help ensure that the campus is positioned for long-term academic excellence, innovation and regional impact.
The West Palm Beach campus is the latest step in an overall growth strategy to widen Vanderbilt's reach and impact-bringing the world to Vanderbilt and Vanderbilt to the world. Vanderbilt's efforts to expand in innovation hubs and high-impact fields include Vanderbilt University-New York City, the university's first campus outside of Nashville, a quantum campus in Chattanooga in collaboration with EPB of Chattanooga, and the recently announced academic campus in San Francisco that will integrate engineering, entrepreneurship and design with a strong foundation in the arts, humanities, social sciences and natural science.

Vanderbilt's Dare to Grow campaign surpassed its initial goal in November 2024 and has already exceeded $3.8 billion. Support for the Dare to Grow campaign catalyzes some of the university's most groundbreaking initiatives, including the Institute of National Security, Vandy United, Vanderbilt's enhanced presences in New York City and West Palm Beach, and signature programs like Opportunity Vanderbilt, residential colleges and many more.
