Sudip Parikh, CEO of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and executive publisher of the Science family of journals, will join Theodore DeWeese, interim dean of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, for a virtual conversation on July 28 as part of the Johns Hopkins Health Policy Forum.
AAAS is the world's largest multidisciplinary scientific society and a leading champion of advancing scientific excellence and achievement for more than 150 years.

The discussion, which begins at 9:30 a.m., will cover a range of topics, including the role of artificial intelligence in advancing research, the next generation of scientific leaders, and the future of science in the United States. Johns Hopkins faculty, staff, students, alumni, and members of the general public are invited to tune in to the event; advance registration is required.
"When I think of all those who have taken a stand for science and the vital role it plays in our society, Dr. Parikh is certainly at the forefront," DeWeese said. "Given his unique vantage point at the intersection of research, policy, and business, he has much to say about the power of science to drive well-informed decisions that positively shape our world. I look forward to discussing the trends and issues impacting the scientists of today and tomorrow as we pursue a better, healthier future."
Parikh became the 19th CEO of AAAS and has spent more than two decades at the nexus of science, policy, and business. From 2001 to 2009, he served as science adviser to the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee, where he was responsible for negotiating budgets for the National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and other scientific and health agencies. He also spent time in senior leadership roles at Battelle, a multibillion-dollar research and development organization, and DIA Global, a multidisciplinary organization for healthcare product development, prior to joining AAAS.
Parikh is the ninth expert to participate in the Health Policy Forum series, which launched in fall 2020 to highlight the university's engagement with key leaders on matters of health policy and health care. Previous events featured:
