Justice Unveils Third Reconciliation Action Plan

Justice has officially launched its Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan 2025-2027 (RAP), demonstrating its continued commitment to advancing reconciliation within the department.

The Reconciliation Action Plan isn't just a document, it's a comprehensive roadmap with 17 actions and 128 deliverables created to deliver meaningful change.

All the key actions and deliverables align with the National Agreement on Closing the Gap Priority Reform Areas, ensuring the Department's efforts contribute directly to the broader national goals.

A key focus of this RAP is acknowledging the past through truth-telling practices, recognising the importance of understanding history in the journey toward reconciliation.

The RAP also prioritises fostering a culturally supportive and inclusive workplace for Aboriginal staff. This commitment ensures Aboriginal employees feel fully supported in their social and emotional wellbeing, empowering them to thrive.

The launch event began with a Welcome to Country delivered by Aboriginal Elder Samuel Kickett.

Director General Kylie Maj delivered a powerful speech, reaffirming the Department's commitment to reconciliation.

"Reconciliation is much more than words. It is about actions that honour and respect the layers of history that shape our present," Ms. Maj stated.

"This RAP aims to redefine the way we work to bring purposeful, systemic change", she said.

Developing this new RAP was a comprehensive and inclusive process, involving actively listening to and understanding staff perspectives on the Department's efforts to advance reconciliation.

Event MC Monique Dimer said the RAP was developed through extensive consultation with Aboriginal staff, the Department's RAP Steering Committee, the Aboriginal Justice Advisory Committee (AJAC), and young people.

To ensure accountability and progress, a dedicated Steering Committee will closely monitor the RAP's deliverables.
