Kalbarri Workers' Accommodation negotiations conclude

  • Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage withdraws from negotiations over Kalbarri Workers' Accommodation
  • State Government made commitment to make Government land available

The State Government, through the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage (DPLH), has withdrawn from negotiations with Petra Westkey (WA) Pty Ltd (Petra Westkey) over the construction of workers' accommodation in Kalbarri.

The State Government made a commitment to make State-owned land available in 2021, to launch an expression of interest for workers' accommodation in Kalbarri.

While the State Government delivered its commitment for the land, as part of the competitive process, Petra Westkey was named the successful proponent for the Wood Street site to build workers' accommodation. At the time, there were no other viable responses received through the EOI process.

The State Government has formally withdrawn from negotiations with the proponent and will now reconsider its options.

As stated by Lands Minister John Carey:

"The State Government's commitment was to make suitable land available, in consultation with the local government, for workers' accommodation in Kalbarri and we delivered that commitment.

"This was a private development, where the State provided the land.

"I want to be clear - no financial or contractual agreement was entered into between Petra Westkey and DPLH.

"There is also no financial loss or risk to WA taxpayers.
