- Nine more Government Regional Officer Housing (GROH) dwellings to be constructed
- To be constructed by local builder West Pilbara Holdings
- Adding to regional housing supply and housing key government workers like teachers and police
An agreement between the State Government and a Pilbara-based building company will see the construction of nine new Government Regional Officer Housing (GROH) dwellings in Karratha.
Under the agreement, West Pilbara Holdings will construct the nine dwellings in the Karratha suburb of Nickol and, upon completion, long-term lease them to GROH to house regional government workers.
The well-located homes will have a modern and functional design to meet the needs of families or shared singles providing government services in the region.
The GROH program provides housing for government employees including teachers, nurses, police, and child protection workers in regional locations to ensure delivery of essential government services.
Build-to-lease is one of the levers GROH uses to add to regional housing supply and ensure critical government services in the regions.
Construction on the two-bedroom, two-bathroom homes has already commenced and is expected to be completed in the first half of 2026.
As stated by Housing and Works Minister John Carey:
"The Cook Labor Government is doing everything it can to ensure regional communities have access to critical State Government workers, such as teachers and police officers.
"Another nine new GROH dwellings in Karratha will provide secure housing to our vital government workers delivering crucial services to the local community."
As stated by Pilbara MLA Kevin Michel:
"This is a fantastic outcome and I'm proud to see another nine new GROH dwellings being delivered by the Cook Labor Government in Karratha.
"Our government is investing in housing in the Pilbara, and these GROH dwellings will provide homes to support policing, teaching, and other critical government services."
