Keeping Communities Safe: New Be Crocwise Resources for Teachers

Territorianslive, work and play in crocodile country. The Territory Labor Government takescommunity safety seriously and today launched an updated Be Crocwise Teachingand Learning Resource Kit for Top End teachers to help them educate studentsabout crocodile safety.

Earlyprimary and middle years teachers can now hold Be Crocwise lessons withoutassistance from the Be Crocwise team to help promote crocodile safety throughsimple behavioural changes.

TheDepartment of Tourism, Sport and Culture and the Department of Educationdeveloped the updated resource.

TheBe Crocwise vehicle has also had a makeover, with a brand new look sure tospark conversations about being Crocwise as it travels to Top End schools.

As stated by Minister forTourism, Sport and Culture, Lauren Moss:

Thelong-running Be Crocwise campaign continues to educate the community on how toco-exist in an environment with crocodiles and promote Crocwise behaviour,helping to keep our community safe.

Bybeing Crocwise and following a few simple principles around personal safety, localsand visitors can continue to enjoy camping and adventures in our Top End parks,reserves and waterways.

The Teaching and Learning Resource Kit willkeep Top End parents, teachers, students and the broader community informed aboutcrocodile safety in the Northern Territory.

As stated by Be CrocwiseCommunity Engagement Manager, Tim Porter:

This newTeaching and Learning Resource Kit will be a valuable source of information forschools and help them teach pupils how to Be Crocwise.

It means schoolsnow have the material they need to run a complete Be Crocwise campaign,including a suggested lesson plan and classroom activities, discussion topics,assignments, role plays, tasks, data, maps, signs, pictures and more.

This will helpus deliver the Be Crocwise message to more children than ever before, andimprove their awareness around crocodiles.
