Kelmscott High Sports Hall Opens

  • New sports hall and upgrades at Kelmscott Senior High School completed, thanks to $12.3 million Cook Government investment
  • Refurbishments include dedicated music centre and new STEM facility
  • Part of the State Government's election commitment to delivering modern learning environments for all students

Kelmscott Senior High School students are enjoying the benefits of a new sports hall and additional upgrades, which were officially opened today by Education Minister Sabine Winton and Armadale MLA Dr Tony Buti.

The $12.3 million sports hall and refurbishments to the existing gym and other areas were part of the State Government's 2021 election commitment.

The newly constructed sports hall provides space for basketball, netball, volleyball and badminton as well as a fitness centre, toilets, change rooms, and staff areas.

The existing school gym has been refurbished and is now a performing arts centre. The modern facility includes a shared drama and dance studio, green rooms, and a dedicated entry with kitchenette.

Refurbishment work has also been completed to provide a dedicated music centre with music ensemble room, practice rooms, and an existing space at the school has been converted into a new STEM facility.

Armstrong Collective Architects were commissioned to design the facilities while PS Structures Pty Ltd carried out the construction, with the final stage of the project completed in December 2025.

The Cook Government will continue to prioritise delivering high quality education infrastructure, close to where families live.

Comments attributed to Education Minister Sabine Winton:

"Our government is committed to providing students with modern facilities, so they can have the best possible learning opportunities.

"Kelmscott Senior High School was first established in 1973, so I'm pleased that these upgrades have been delivered for generations to come.

"I'm pleased that students are starting the school year with an outstanding sports hall, performing arts and music spaces, and a new STEM facility.

"I look forward to seeing how these practical, purpose-built spaces positively impact students, teachers, and the wider school community."

As stated by Armadale MLA Dr Tony Buti:

"This is a terrific result for the Kelmscott Senior High School community, with the opening of these new facilities.

"As a former student of the school, I know these upgrades mean more opportunities for students to get involved, build confidence, and develop their skills inside and outside the classroom.

"I want to thank the school community, and everyone involved in delivering this project. Families in Kelmscott can be proud to see such high-quality education infrastructure in their area."
