Kidnap charge after woman assaulted - Greenacre

A man is due to face court charged after allegedly assaulting his former partner then holding her and a child against their will at Greenacre yesterday.

Officers from Bankstown Police Area Command have been told a 36-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman were at a home in Ivy Street, Greenacre, about 9am (Sunday 9 May 2021), when an argument began.

Police will allege the man then hit the woman multiple times to her face, head and body; she tried to leave with her eight-month-old son but was forced into the man's car.

Police have been told woman tried to escape from the vehicle twice – including once on Glassop Street at Yagoona – calling on passers-by to help her before she was forced back into the car. She was then driven to her home in Sadlier and the man then left.

Police were alerted and commenced inquiries and, about 8pm, the man was arrested at the home in Greenacre.

He was taken to Bankstown Police station where he was charged with

Take/detain a person with intent to obtain advantage (DV)

Common assault

Contravene prohibition/restriction in apprehended violence order (Domestic).

He's also been charged with breach of bail.

The man has been refused bail and is due to appear in Bankstown Local Court today (Monday 10 May 2021).

His blue Nissan Pulsar sedan has been towed for forensic examination.
