Kidnapping charges, Acacia Ridge

Detectives have charged a 24-year-old Sunnybank Hills man following an alleged abduction in Acacia Ridge yesterday.

Police will allege the man posed as a learner driver, booking a driving lesson at an Acacia Ridge address.

It will be further alleged when the instructor arrived, the man produced a knife and forced the instructor to drive to a Kittyhawk Avenue at Inala shopping centre with the intention of kidnapping a woman known to him.

Upon arrival at the shopping centre, the victim was able to escape the vehicle and raise the alarm. He was not physically harmed during the incident.

Police arrested the man in the shopping centre car park and he was later charged with one count each of deprivation of liberty, extortion with intent to gain benefit with threat of detriment, kidnapping for ransom, unlawful entry of vehicle for committing indictable offence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and attempted kidnapping (domestic violence offence).

He was denied police bail and will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court Monday April 18 (via video link from Richlands).
