Knife Seized During Wanding Operation At Logan

Logan police have charged a teenager after a large knife was allegedly located during a wanding operation at a Shailer Park transport hub on 31 October.

Around 4pm, officers from the Queensland Police Service Railway Squad were conducting a routine wanding operation under Operation X-Ray Course when a boy was stopped and subjected to a metal detection scan.

The scan indicated the presence of metal within his bag, and on inspection, police allegedly located a large knife.

The 17-year-old Meadowbrook boy was arrested and later charged with one count of possession of a knife in a public place.

He was dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.

Senior Sergeant Shayne Treasure, Railway Squad Transit Tactician, said the result highlights the importance of proactive wanding operations in keeping the community safe.

"The weapon located in this instance was particularly concerning due to its size and potential to cause harm," Senior Sergeant Treasure said.

"Wanding operations are an effective deterrent and detection tool, allowing police to remove dangerous items from public transport hubs and ensure passengers feel safe while travelling.

"The message to young people is clear - carrying a knife is not only illegal, but also dangerous and unnecessary.

"If you choose to carry a weapon, you can expect to be caught."

Police will continue to conduct regular wanding operations across the Logan District as part of ongoing efforts to prevent knife-related crime and enhance community safety.
