Kokoda Challenge Marks 20 Years of Grit & Giving

Kokoda Youth Foundation

In its milestone 20th year, the Kokoda Challenge returns to the Gold Coast on July 19-20, for what is set to be its most memorable yet. Winding through the rugged peaks of the Gold Coast Hinterland, thousands will take to the trails to push themselves beyond their limits in a powerful test of resilience, mateship and endurance, embodying the true Kokoda Spirit.

Now renowned as Australia's toughest team endurance event, 2025 marks a major milestone celebrating two decades of impact that started right here on the Gold Coast in 2005. This year's challenge ignites a remarkable 810+ teams, each participant inspired and driven by their own personal "why" – the driving force behind their determination to conquer the 30km, 48km or premier 96km hike.

"My team and I are past Kokoda Youth Program kids. The program changed our lives; we've grown to be better people and learned our limits and goals. So, this year we are ready and ecstatic to get back into training and the challenge". Says Meila, 96km participant.

Fuelled by personal challenges from courageous recoveries to heartful tributes to loved ones, challengers embark on an extraordinary journey, inspired by a deep purpose that propels every step forward.

Amelia, one of our 30km Challengers, is participating in this event because a recent medical diagnosis means she experiences partial paralysis during physical excursion. "I'm doing the Kokoda Challenge with my best friends to overcome personal and mental challenges," she said.

Participants walk away not only having proven their resilience on the course but also with the pride of having helped raise funds that enable the Kokoda Youth Foundation to support disengaged young Australians through transformative youth programs.

This spirit will be echoed across the event, which sees participation from over 470+ school teams from across the State. Their involvement embodies the event's mission to inspire the next generation of young Australians to embrace challenges, build resilience and unlock their potential.

With energy building, the event is shaping up to be an inspiring day full of determination, teamwork and unforgettable moments as the event celebrates its 20th year.

To mark two decades of honouring the Kokoda Campaign legacy, this year's event will also feature a spectacular WWII era, P-51 Mustang fighter plane flyover the start line of the iconic 96km course. One lucky participant has won the rare opportunity to nominate their hero, or supporter who have helped them on their fundraising journey for a once in a lifetime passenger seat experience, soaring above the Gold Coast Hinterland.

Adding to the excitement, Triple M Gold Coast is also turning up the heat this year, proudly fielding two teams, led by fan-favourite breakfast host Peter "Spida" Everitt.

We invite your media outlet to help shine a spotlight on an incredible cause and to support Kokoda Youth Foundation's mission to transform the lives of Australian youth.
