The Laboratory is moving toward a state designated as "Minimum Safe Operations" by Monday, March 23, as requested by Director Bill Goldstein. This move is in response to county public health departments' shelter-in-place orders issued Monday, as well as state and federal government recommendations.
To achieve Minimum Safe Operations - a state of curtailed on-site work activities - the Laboratory reduces the number of people on site to the minimum number necessary to ensure the safety and security of the site and its facilities. During this time, programs and facilities are temporarily shut down, in this instance to a condition called "warm standby." A limited number of mission-critical activities will continue. Employees who are involved in this transition process or assigned to the identified mission-critical activities will be notified directly by their management and should charge the associated project and task. During this time, LLNL Protective Force and the Alameda County Fire capability on-site will remain fully operational.
With the exception of employees performing minimum safe activities, all employees who can effectively telecommute should be doing so. Telecommuting employees should charge their appropriate project and task. Employees who cannot telecommute should not report to the Lab and should charge Authorized Leave. Employees who are sick, or caring for those who are sick, should charge sick leave or family sick leave, as appropriate. Employees who are taking vacation time should charge vacation.
Telecommuting equipment
Employees who need to return to pick up equipment for telecommuting may do so. Those awaiting equipment will be contacted by LivIT for further instructions. As a reminder, all LLNL equipment leaving the Laboratory must be approved for off-site use, be properly encrypted and have a property pass. On-site services
As the Laboratory moves to Minimum Safe Operations, a number of on-site services already have been curtailed. These include both cafeterias, the LLESA gym and fitness classes, the print plant, the Children's Center, the Discovery Center and the Training and Development Center. New employee orientation start dates have been delayed.
