Labor finally releases alternative budget

Michael Ferguson, Treasurer

Labor have once again proven they can't be trusted to manage the Budget or Tasmania's economy after being pressured to adopt Greens' wages policy as their own.

In an embarrassing moment of poor judgment in Parliament today, Labor actually voted with the Greens for a totally unaffordable wage policy which would cost Tasmanians at least $2.4 billion over the 4 years of the Budget and Forward Estimates. And which would make inflation run even higher than forecast.

Considering the Labor Prime Minister is offering his own Commonwealth public sector workers a 3 per cent rise, this is tell tale sign of an opposition that isn't serious or credible.

No respected economist would agree with this reckless policy.

It's no wonder Dr Broad is too afraid to put forward an alternative Budget when Bec White's wages policy commits to such reckless and unsustainable spending. Well, his overdue alternative budget has just been written for him by the Greens.

Tasmanians will have to expect to see savage cuts to employee numbers and massive tax hikes in his alternative Budget next May to fund his $2.4 billion black hole.

Failing that, it's an extra $2,400,000,000 in extra debt for future generations.

Labor can't manage money.
