Labor Slashes Wait Times, Liberals Slash Hospitals

VIC Premier

Labor has recruited 17,000 nurses and midwives and built 12 new hospitals.

Now our hospitals are delivering faster, safer emergency care for families across the state.

Timely Emergency Care

Labor's Timely Emergency Care (TEC) program is reducing wait times and keeping beds free for the sickest patients.

The program, which includes Austin Health, has supported 28 hospitals to deliver care faster.

At the Austin, it has reduced admissions by five per cent and stays for older people by 10 per cent.

Across Victoria, it has freed up a massive 66,000 bed days.

That's the equivalent of freeing up four busy hospital wards every day.

The program has also:

prevented more than 1,100 unnecessary admissions for older people at the Royal Melbourne Hospital

delivered a 31 per cent improvement in ambulance transfer performance at Monash Medical Centre

improved time from arrival to assessment by more than 2.5 hours at Latrobe Regional Health.

More support for older Victorians

The program has also delivered a new approach to supporting older Victorians when they present to EDs.

It has prevented more than 3,000 older Victorians from unnecessary hospital admissions.

That's equal to one hospital ward each day.

The new approach brings together geriatricians, nurses and allied health clinicians for early assessment in EDs - connecting patients to the right care earlier.

This frees up beds for the sickest patients.

Labor has always backed the Austin.

Liberals have never supported it.

In 1996, Jeff Kennett drew up plans to sell off the Austin.

When they were last in Government, they ripped $1 billion out of Victorian hospitals.

Now, under a One Nation-Liberal Coalition, the Austin - and all Victorian hospitals - are at risk.

They will cut funding, privatise hospitals, slash nursing jobs and go to war with paramedics.

With $40 billion in budget cuts, history will repeat itself.

Victorians can't afford a One Nation-Liberal Coalition cutting the things they rely on.

As stated by Premier Jacinta Allan

"Labor has recruited 17,000 nurses and midwives and built 12 new hospitals."

"Now our hospitals can deliver faster, safer emergency care for families across the state."

As stated by Minister for Health Harriet Shing

"The fact is, you cannot cut $40 billion from the budget without cutting public hospitals and public healthcare."

"Victoria cannot risk a One Nation-Liberal Coalition."

As stated by Member for Ivanhoe Anthony Carbines

"Locals know they can always get the very best care they need at the Austin."

As stated by Member for Northcote Kat Theophanous

"The Austin continues to deliver world-class care to local families - these results in the ED are proof."
