Labor Squanders $67M on Unbuilt Airport Rail: Southwick

Liberal Party Victoria

As projects across Victoria face cuts in the upcoming State Budget, the Allan Labor Government has wasted $67 million to pause construction on Melbourne's Airport Rail Link.

Figures in yesterday's Mid-Year Financial Report confirm Labor has spent the money to stop and wind-back already completed early works along the rail corridor.

It comes off the back of warnings that the Government is preparing to make savage cuts across a number of projects whilst others face indefinite delays in its upcoming State Budget, as it struggles to manage its growing debt crisis.

Shadow Minister for Transport Infrastructure, David Southwick, said: "An airport rail line is a feature of major cities around Australia and the world, but this government has wasted $67 million alone just to stop it in its tracks.

"Labor's mismanagement of major projects is adding to Victoria's record debt, forcing higher taxes and pushing up prices at a time Victorians can least afford it.

"Labor can't manage money, can't manage projects and Victorians are paying the price."
