Labor will not stand in way of new gaming policy

Tasmanian Labor

Card-based play is an important component of Tasmanian Labor's gaming policy.

Labor secured the amendment which directed the Commission to investigate the effectiveness and implementation of card-based play during the Parliamentary debate last year.

Before Labor announced its position, the Government had said it was planning to make no changes to harm minimisation.

The legislation Labor supported through the Parliament last year has ultimately led to this announcement, and we remain committed to the position we took at that time.

This is a significant and complicated change, which is highlighted by its two-year implementation timeline.

We encourage the Government to explain exactly how it will work as it will involve people's personal details, photos and information about their gambling habits. Security around this data needs to be extremely strong.
