Labor's public holiday own goal

Madeleine Ogilvie, Minister for Small Business

Labor's Shadow Treasurer Shane Broad has kicked an embarrassing own goal.

Tasmanians are supporting the Matildas and they have all our luck for tonight!

Minister for Small Business, Madeleine Ogilvie, said the Government is standing with the business community, and ruling out a public holiday should the Matildas win the World Cup.

"Meanwhile, Dr Broad grinned from ear to ear as he delivered a rehearsed line that would embarrass the legend behind it, saying Labor would support a public holiday," she said.

"The public holiday that Labor wants would cost Tasmanian businesses more than $83 million in wages alone, according to the Tasmanian Small Business Council CEO Robert Mallett.

"Tasmanians are already celebrating the Matildas and we want them to continue - celebrating in open pubs, clubs and restaurants.

"Ms White pretends to support business, but as Dr Broad clearly showed yesterday, it's just more lip service from the Leader who stands for nothing. Labor clearly don't understand the need for business certainty.

"Just this morning, even the Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has walked away from his idea for a public holiday. How embarrassing for Dr Broad and Tasmanian Labor.

"The first time Labor gets off the fence and they land on the wrong side of it."
