Lake Alexander Reopens for Recreational Water Activities

Lake Alexander will reopen for swimming and other recreational water activities from this afternoon.

City of Darwin CEO, Scott Waters said the results of recent water quality tests showed the lake met the NT and National Water Quality Guidelines, making it suitable for swimming.

"Lake Alexander at East Point Reserve is a popular area for families to picnic and enjoy recreational activities. We are pleased to be re-opening Lake Alexander to the public and will continue to closely monitor and undertake regular sampling of the water quality. City of Darwin is committed to maintaining the highest environmental practices to protect the community," Mr Waters added.

The lake has been closed since 28 January after higher than usual bacteria levels were detected during routine water quality monitoring.

The water quality in Lake Alexander complies with the levels required under the National Recreational Microbiological Water Quality Guidelines.
