Griffith residents may have noticed the new park at Lake Wyangan is now open to enjoy, thanks to funding through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program (LRCIP) Phase 4.
Families are encouraged to make the most of the space throughout the warmer months, ahead of Stage 2 works commencing in February 2026 when the playground and recreation area temporarily close for several months. These works include major irrigation upgrades and other improvements to enhance the recreation area. The closure is necessary to ensure everyone's safety during construction.
Developed in response to community feedback, the playground offers a wide range of features for children and families, including:
- Inclusive play equipment: Supporting play for children of all abilities
- Double flying fox: A high-energy addition for adventurous fun
- Table tennis table: Encouraging friendly games and connection
- New seating and shade sail: Comfortable, shaded areas for relaxation
- Accessible toilet facilities: Ensuring the playground can be enjoyed by all visitors
Alongside the new playground, the Apex Shelter has had a facelift with new seating, a deep clean and fresh paint, making it an inviting spot for picnics and gatherings.
Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran said he was proud to see steps being taken to make Lake Wyangan a place where families can spend time together and enjoy the outdoors.
"The new playground, along with the improvements to the recreation area, creates a safe, welcoming and family-friendly environment that our community can be proud of," he said.
"We will need to close the recreation area early next year so that the next stage of this project can proceed and we ask the community for their patience while it is being carried out."
