Land Acquired For New School In Melbourne's Outer West

VIC Premier

The Andrews Labor Government is backing families in Melbourne's rapidly expanding outer west, with a brand-new primary school one step closer after land acquisition in the Melton LGA.

Minister for Education Natalie Hutchins today announced the Labor Government has acquired land in Truganina for the future delivery of the Tarneit Plains Primary School (interim name), supporting local families and local schools with the resources and infrastructure they need to deliver better education outcomes.

This follows recent data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics which showed that more new schools have been built in Victoria over the past 5 years than any other state.

The Victorian Budget 2022/23 invested $236.7 million to acquire land for 15 future new schools to meet growing population needs across Victoria.

Since 2018, the Labor Government has invested $978 million to acquire land for new schools, including those set to open in 2025, with a further $25 million in planning funding to deliver the remaining 25 schools.

Victoria's big school build, which will open 100 new schools by 2026, is ahead of schedule - with 75 new schools opening between 2019 and 2024 - ensuring every student can access a great local school and a quality education no matter where they live.

Tarneit Plains Primary School (interim name) is one of the 100 schools that will open as part of our commitment to deliver 100 new schools by 2026.

The Labor Government is ensuring all Victorian students have access to the modern, top-class facilities that they deserve, while supporting the teaching workforce with the cutting-edge training and support.

In the past eight years, the Government has invested more than $12.8 billion in building new schools and more than 1,850 school upgrades.

Around 17,400 jobs have been created in construction and associated industries, while ensuring every child gets a great start in life and that our local schools continue to do a fantastic job of educating the next generation.
