Orange City Council crews will start a program of extra road repairs this week, funded by the NSW Government.
Council routinely has two road crews working on pothole repairs, but this week the crews will begin road patching repairs in March Street.
Orange City Council Infrastructure Committee Chair, Cr Jack Evans said the March Street project would be the first phase of work under the recent Regional & Local Roads Repair Program grant of $967K.
"In streets that are badly affected by potholes, it makes more sense to repair large sections of the street rather than filling individual potholes," Cr Jack Evans said.
ROADS: Large scale patching of a damaged road can take longer to repair than individual potholes, but it can provide a smoother surface for drivers.
"The aim is the same, to repair rain-damaged roads. But the end result will be a more permanent and much smoother road surface for drivers."
Crews will be working on sections of March Street between Peisley Street and Lords Place, and then March Street between Woodward and Sampson Streets. Crews will remove the damaged surface and gravel pavement before adding new pavement and re-surfacing.
Weather permitting, the work is expected to be completed this week, before crews move on to new locations next week.
Roadworks also continues at a number of other sites around Orange, including:
- In Clergate Road the installation of stormwater drainage pipes is continuing. Major road crossings are complete. This week the road will be closed from 7am to 5pm (Monday to Friday) and will re-open to traffic at night.
- Excavation work is continuing on the new hardstand (plane parking area) at the Orange Regional Airport.
