Applications for Rockhampton Regional Council's Apprentice and Trainee Program close on Monday 1 September, marking the last chance for school leavers and job seekers to apply for the 2026 intake.
Chief Executive Officer Evan Pardon said the timing of this year's closing date aligned perfectly with National Skills Week, a reminder that skills training can open doors to diverse and rewarding career opportunities.
"Whether you're finishing school, changing careers, or upskilling for your next opportunity, Council's training programs can kickstart your career." Mr Pardon said.
"Council's Apprentice and Trainee Program offers applicants the opportunity to earn while they learn, working towards a nationally recognised qualification and building valuable experience in the workplace at the same time.
"Many of Council's employees started their journey as trainees or apprentices, and we're proud to continue investing in the workforce of the future."
The 2026 program includes nine Business Administration, four Civil Construction, four Horticulture and one Live Production traineeships, and one Mechanic Apprenticeship, which will commence in early January.
Labourer Jack Peacock, who recently completed a Civil Construction Traineeship through Council, encouraged anyone considering a new career path to apply.
"I wasn't sure what direction I wanted to take, but I'd heard good things about Council's Civil Construction Traineeship and decided to give it a go," Mr Peacock said.
"Completing a traineeship is a great way to bridge the gap between education and employment.
"It gave me the chance to learn on the job, build practical skills, and gain real experience that I now use every day in my role as a labourer."
