Up to 400 new South Australian jobs will be created thanks to the latest phase of work to reactivate the Repat Health Precinct.
Premier, Steven Marshall said the latest development works on the Brain Injury Rehabilitation and Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation facilities would provide essential services for South Australians while delivering a much needed jobs boost to the local community.
"The State Government is committed to providing South Australians with outstanding medical facilities at the Repat site," Premier Marshall said.
"This $80 million investment in the second phase of the project will help us deliver on our commitment to a thriving health precinct while also creating 400 local jobs."
The landmark project reached a milestone today as construction begins on the new Brain Injury Rehabilitation and Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation facility.
Minister for Health and Wellbeing, Stephen Wade said the new 48-bed facility will provide a high-quality modern and contemporary environment that will optimise patient experience and recovery, and promote health and wellbeing.
"The purpose designed facility will deliver a patient and family centred service, offering research and therapy spaces, including a sports gymnasium designed specifically to complement rehabilitation services," Minister Wade said.
"Thanks to $5 million of Commonwealth funding, the Repat will be home to a dedicated Veterans' Wellbeing Centre.
"The new Veterans' Wellbeing Centre aims to strengthen relationships, improve service coordination, advocacy and integrate health promotion activities, to achieve better health and wellbeing outcomes for our veterans and their families," Minister Wade said.
"The Centre will also ensure veterans maintain a strong link with the site through a dedicated space which will further meet their needs and the needs of their families."
Lendlease General Manager Chris Leopold said the property and infrastructure company contracted to develop and build the facilities within phase two of the Repat project, said the development would boost local jobs and the economy.
"We're very excited to partner with the State Government on this world-leading facility that will offer life improving facilities to many South Australians, as well as create local jobs during this crucial period for the state economy," Mr Leopold said.
"The significant project and build will require a large, highly-skilled workforce, helping to boost employment opportunities for locals and investment in other South Australian companies."
Reactivating the Repat site has received a total investment from both the State and Federal Governments of almost $110 million.
Brain injury and spinal cord injury rehabilitation services are currently offered at the Hampstead Rehabilitation Centre and will relocate to the Repat Health Precinct in late 2021.
