Some of the public sector's newest employees gained a firsthand look at the heart of Western Australia's democracy during a visit to Parliament House last week.
The visit was part of Launch, the public sector's program supporting graduate officers to build the mindsets and capabilities needed to contribute to a high performing public sector.
The 89 graduates from 19 agencies gained insight into the inner workings of WA's parliamentary system and the important role public sector employees play in shaping policy, supporting decision makers and delivering outcomes for the community.
Kaelin from the Department of Energy and Economic Diversification appreciated seeing how the broader government ecosystem works.
"We implement the laws, regulations and policies that representatives elected by the people make. Coming down to actually see the process of how those legislators do what they do is really helpful."
Public Sector Commission graduate Leah, was struck by the impact a single person can make. "Today has got me thinking about how my work can impact the general public - and how it's important to conduct myself in a way that's transparent and fair for everyone."
